I Designed Ads to Drive Customers to My Etsy Shop: Week Two

Last week, I built my own Etsy shop and listed my custom-designed clothing. I have always wanted to experiment with creating my own brand. Building my shop took a lot of careful planning and attention to detail. Through creating my shop, I learned how to use Etsy’s platform and ad listings. My goal was to create my own brand and promote my products through advertising.


This week, I was ready to start creating the advertisements. My goal was to promote my shop by using advertising on Meta, Pinterest, and Etsy ads.


Here’s what I planned on accomplishing:

  • Design three advertisements on Canva.

  • Record a tech tool video on how to use Canva.

  • Create and submit my ads on Pinterest, Facebook, and Etsy.

Before I jump onto the ad platforms, I first need to create a series of ads that I can use. I chose to design my ads on Canva.

The design


The purpose of my design was to be simple and straightforward. Minimalism was my goal. I chose colors that went along with my logo colors: pink, black, white, and brown. I created my own logo and placed it in the ads to promote my own brand. I wanted the viewer to be drawn to the link to my website, so I framed the text around the action button. Finally, I added pictures of the products I sell on my site.

Putting it together


After designing my ads on Canva, I created a Facebook ad profile. I added my logo and brand name, as well as a bio and link to my Etsy site. I chose two of my ad designs and submitted them for review. After they have been submitted, I can track the metrics of each ad.


I created an ad on Pinterest with my profile and chose one of my ad designs to use. The only issue I ran into was that the file was too small for Pinterest’s ad platform. To fix this issue, I chose a simple picture of my product to use, rather than the square advertisements I designed on Canva.



I also chose to promote my products on Etsy ads. This was simple and easy, and I can directly see the metrics of each ad on my account profile.



How did I do?


I accomplished the main parts of the project I set out to do at the beginning of the week, however, here are two things I would do differently.


  1. Better time management

Submitting ads and getting back metrics takes time. I started this process too late in the week to really get back the metrics I wanted to have. In the future, I will plan on submitting my ads as soon as possible so that I can gain the feedback that I need to analyze the metrics of each ad campaign.


  1. More attention to SEO

Each platform provides a lot of options to utilize SEO knowledge. I wish I had done more research on SEO as I could have utilized this tool more. Next week, I want to delve deep into SEO so that I can understand what makes my advertisements successful.


Here’s my plan of action for next week:

  • Record metrics for each ad in Excel.

  • Create a walk-through video on how to create an Etsy shop.

  • Create tech tool videos for Facebook, Pinterest, and Etsy ads.

  • Create a blog post on SEO basics.
